Given the success script well spelt down at the inaugural Sseninde Women Development Cup in 2016, efforts are being undertaken to ensure a much better tourney this year.

 

From the laying crucial strong basement to preparatory meetings, the one day tournament which is staged for women’s teams and players who are not taking part in the ongoing FUFA Women Elite League has indeed taken shape.

Kingdom is the key brain under this arrangement through the Sseninde Foundation.

 

Manchester United star midfielder Juan Mata, a special player with whom Sseninde shares aspirations of making society better under the common goal organization is the latest to join the bandwagon of personalities behind this noble cause.

 

The common goal group targets uniting the world of professional footballers behind a shared commitment to give back to society.

Sseninde elucidates;

 

The preparations for a successful Sseninde Women Development Football Cup are underway.

This tournament is for young girls and women who seek a chance to play without opportunities.

Juan Mata is supporting the 2nd edition with a common goal to help create more opportunities for those less fortunate than us.

 

“There is excitement as we continue to prepare  ahead of the 2nd Edition of the tournament.

There is a chance to show support to a unique group of women and girls who have passion and desire to play soccer but with less opportunities, this time with a campaign,” she continues.
 

Taggy Girls School inspired by Catherine Naggadya won the inaugural edition played at Villa Park in the heart of the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

Naggadya’s two goals in the finals capped the icing on the cake as Taggy Girls defended gallantly to win the tournament over a hard fighting Kawempe Muslim side.

 

Wakiso District Women Member of Parliament, Rose Mary Sseninde, also the State Minister for Primary Education was among the dignitaries that graced the tournament.

State Minister of Sports, Charles Bakabulindi hailed Jean Sseninde for the idea of the tournament.

 

Other high profile guests at the tournament included; Barbie Itungo (wife to Musician and Politician Bobie Wine), Mande Atigo, the president of the Uganda National North America Association (UNNAA), Ahmed Hussein (FUFA Spokesman), and Hadijah Namuyanja (FUFA Women Development Officer).

 

Sseninde was recently among the panelists for the BBC African of Year.

She is also a member of the Uganda national women football team, The Crested Cranes.
